A two-day CME on Women Imaging, Dr Gyan P Lal CME, was organized by the Delhi State Chapter of IRIA (under ICRI & National IRIA) at Auditorium of RML Hospital New Delhi. The meeting received a stupendous response with around 250 attendees including office bearers, faculty members and chairpersons.
Dr. Smita Manchanda, Additional Professor, AIIMS New Delhi, and Sub-Specialty Head of Women imaging IRIA was the scientific coordinator and the state coordinators were Dr Shibani Mehra, Past President Delhi chapter & Dr. Anju Garg, ex HOD at MAMC, New Delhi.
The first day began with many enthusiastic budding radiologists presenting their oral papers on various interesting topics of gynaecological and breast radiology. Each presentation was followed by a set of pertinent Q and A by the chairpersons. The oral paper presentation was an informative session, presentations were engaging, and the audience participated actively, making the session more interactive. 12 residents presented their papers, of which 4 were selected for awards.
The post-lunch session focused on common gynaecological conditions like abnormal uterine bleeding, carcinoma cervix, and female infertility imaging. The renowned speakers shed light on the advancements in these areas and discussed a clinico-radiological approach to such cases (in tune with ICRI Clinical Orientation of Radiological Essentials).
The evening session shifted gears to discuss a resident-oriented topic, which focused on tips and tricks on how to get a thesis published. This was followed by a discussion on a topic that is being discussed everywhere these days- artificial intelligence and its role in women imaging. Finally, the day wrapped up with the much-awaited session, the film reading session. The session was highly participatory, with everyone showing good involvement and sharing of real-life incidents and cases by the presenters.
The second day started with a startling spotter session. This was followed by insights on women’s pelvic imaging including evaluation of adnexal masses using USG and MRI as well as differentiation between leiomyoma and adenomyosis.
The new favourite -‘Break the routine’ session (non-radiology content) succeeded the academic feast where Dr. Sonikka Jain shared pearls regarding using Vastu for personal and professional growth, Dr Rajesh Gothi reminiscing his residency days and shared an encounter of a patient in ED stuck in cement and how X rays and fluoroscopy was used for primary diagnosis and management. It was astonishing as well as intriguing for young residents and delegates to see the journey of diagnostic radiology through his perspective. The melodius song ‘Jhool-e-Lallan’ was a breath of fresh air which compelled the entire audience to swing and clap.
This was followed by a small tea break and the academic sessions were back with a bang, focusing on gynecological emergencies, endometriosis, mullerian duct anomalies and a special PEARL session on pitfalls and errors in Female pelvic imaging.
